FAQ
THE FILM PROJECT
This is the day that the Lord has made and Ishall be glad and rejoice in it
What is the Short Film Project about?
The Short Film Project is a student-led initiative partnered with HAPHE, focusing on real, anonymous experiences of young people dealing with loss and trauma.
Who can get involved?
We welcome students as crew members, storytellers, and university staff passionate about mental health, safeguarding, or the arts.
What kind of crew members are you looking for?
We are looking for roles such as event managers, directors, assistant directors, camera operators, lighting technicians, sound technicians, production assistants, editors, actors (body doubles), and more.
Will I get credit for participating?
Yes! All crew members and actors will receive full credit for their contributions and references to support professional development.
How long is the commitment?
The shoot will likely take half a day, scheduled during university holidays or times when students are most available.
What are the stories about?
The stories come from anonymous journals about loss, trauma, and resilience, showing that writing experiences down can be the first step toward healing.
Is it really anonymous?
Yes. We use body doubles (actors) to represent storytellers and protect their identity fully.
How did the project start?
It began when a student at the University of Oxford partnered with HAPHE, exploring diaries that revealed deep links between loss and trauma.
Why focus on loss and trauma?
Acknowledging loss and expressing emotions leads to insight, growth, and resilience. Research supports that writing and sharing help healing.
Where will the filming take place?
We aim to film in university spaces, particularly drama, arts, or safeguarding-affiliated environments with staff support.
Is this a professional film?
This is a student-driven, professionally supported project, forming part of an ethnographic exploration as well as a student mental health initiative.
How can I join or find out more?
You can apply to join the crew or share your story anonymously through the available forms. All submissions are handled with care.
What does HAPHE mean?
HAPHE (pronounced HAFAE) is an ancient Greek word meaning 'to connect.' It reflects a balanced, rational emotional posture toward life, embracing both insight and resilience.
